: 31 January - 9 February 2003 Venue : Ratchaworadit Pier, Bangkok In its fourth year, "The River of Kings Festival" presents a spectacular light-and-sound extravaganza entitled "The Great Conquerors" in which the glory of the Kingdom and the legendary greatness of the nation's King are portrayed. In a grand theatrical production with a cast of more than 700 actors and actresses and two live elephants, the story of "The Great Conquerors", loved and respected as providers, creators and philosophers, is retold and relived in 3 acts. In Act I, "Warrior Kings" depicts a battle fought with war elephants. "Creator Kings" in Act II provides an account of how and why Bangkok was built by King Rama I and how it developed into a hub of culture during the subsequent reigns. This segment will also feature a re-enactment of the Royal Barge Procession down the Chao Phraya. The final act, "Philosophy Kings" is dedicated to the exploits of monarchs including King Mongkut and King Chulalongkorn who successfully dealt with crises, which threatened the Kingdom's continued existence as a sovereign state.
