Chak Phra Festival and Long - Tailed Boat Race

Venue : On the Tapi River, Muang, Surat Thani

In Chak Phra Festival, local people celebrate the end of the three-month Buddhist Lent by making procession that imitates the hauling of Buddha images from the Tapi River in the ancient time. They believe that at the end of this three-month retreat, Buddha was coming back to the world after ascending to heaven to preach to his mother. Also along the festival are the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Cup Long-Tailed Boat Race, Phanom Pra car contest, Phanom Pra boat contest and Surat Thani’s foods and products fairs.
