ASEAN Zebra Dove Cooing Contest

Origin :
Thais believe that doves are animals that bring good luck to those who raise them, especially doves that have qualities according to texts will endow great wealth and honor upon the owner. Some say doves are the symbols of purity and peace.
In the old days, it was popular for Thais to raise zebra doves. The practice was widespread throughout the lower southern provinces and neighboring countries. Later a local dove-cooing contest was organized and expanded into an international event that it is today.

Activities :
- Zebra dove cooing contests in the small, medium, large, and combined voices categories.
- Contests of cow fighting, cockfighting, sheep fighting, fishing, and cooing of Krong Hua Chuk birds.
- Sales of bird equipment, fine plant offshoots and local products.

Nearby Tourist Spots :
- Wat Khuha Phimuk (Muang)
  is 1 of 3 sacred religious sites in the South. A large cave here is where visitors can find a gigantic ancient reclining Buddha image that was probably built in the Si Wichai period.
- Bang Lang Dam (Bannang Sta)
  is southern Thailand's first multi-purpose hydroelectric dam. It brooks the Pattani River. Visitors can get a good view of the beautiful scenery of the dam, the reservoir and the surrounding mountains. Rafts service tourists who wish to cruise on the lake there.
- Betong town (Betong)
  is Thailand's southernmost district and is called "a misty city and beautiful flowers."
- Hala Bala Forest (Betong)
  is a dense jungle that is rich in flora and fauna, particularly rare birds. It is also the habitat of the Sakai tribe and the source of water for Bang Lang Dam. Tourists can hire boats to appreciate the mountains, jungles and waterways in the area.
