Origin :
The people of Ubon Ratchathani will make candles that are
about the circumference of a man's head to give to monks
for their use. Some oil is also offered, as well as other
necessary items like robes. The offerings were later transformed
into the majestic candles that are now given.
The Candle Festival is supported by TAT into a national
event by publicizing it to Thais and foreigners till it
is now extremely popular among travelers.
Activities
:
- Merit making and a reception for the royal candle given
by His Majesty the King.
- Miss Candle pageant and candle contest.
- Traditional northeastern meals called "Pha Khao Laeng" for
tourists.
- Candle procession by people dressed in local costumes and
dancing to the tune of northeastern music with dances like
Ram Tang Wai, Ram Klong Yao, Fon Phu Thai, and Soeng Swing.
- Grand entertainment.
