Long Boat Race Championship of Thailand |
Schedule
: 2-3 November 2002
Venue
: On the Chao Phraya River, Bang Sai Arts and Crafts
Center, Amphoe Bang Sai, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
Origin
:
Long boat racing has been a traditional Thai sport since
ancient times. There is evidence that when Ayutthaya was
the capital, boat races were held in October and was one
of the royal monthly ceremonies. This activity is part of
the Thai identity that shows our love of fun and unity from
past to present. There are boat races in every region at
the end of the Buddhist Lent.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is aware of the
importance to conserve and promote water traditions and
has organized the traditional long boat races so this activity
remains a national identity and heritage. It is also a way
to promote a domestic tourism activity for Thais and increase
spending in the country in order to effectively distribute
income to the regions and raise the level of the event into
an international one.
Activities :
- International men's category 22 paddlers
- Thai men's category 22 paddlers
- Traditional long boat category 55 paddlers
