September
16 - 20, 2001
Venue : Phetchabun Province Hall, Wat Traiphum, Wat Bot
Chanaman, Phetchabun Province.
As part of the Sart Thai
Festival, the residents of Phetchabun hold the Um Phra Dam Nam
Festival, which is accompanied by a procession of the sacred Phra
Buddha Maha Thammaracha image around the city. The governor of
the province officiates at a holy ritual in which he dives into
the river with the Buddha image in his arms in the belief that
the act brings happiness and fertility.
The Phra Buddha Maha Thammaracha is then taken to the provincial
hall where the residents of the community are granted an opportunity
to pour lustral water over the image in an act of reverance. This
year the procession will be held on September 28. Various fun-filled
activities add to the entertaining aspects of the festival.
